Encourage Career Development with Incentives

A happy workforce is a loyal workforce. It can be hard to retain good staff, though, as employees often struggle with job insecurity and are always looking for greener pastures.

Those who really prosper within a company are the employees who take advantage of career development opportunities. But how can you, as an employer, encourage career development with incentives? We have collected some tips for how to best do this – read on to find out more.

Economic incentives

While it might sound rather mercenary, economic incentives can be a fantastic way to encourage career development in your staff. While you can show your employees the career development and progression they can achieve by clear pipelines and examples, sometimes the financial reality of progression can be one of the biggest draws. If an employee can see that progressing will give them the chance to achieve more income, then they will be more likely to stay with the company.

Time-based incentives

Another way you can help your employees to feel as though they are valued by your company and that the company culture is a good fit is by giving them incentives based on holiday days. Many employees struggle to not take unpaid time off, and rewarding outstanding performance with extra paid time off can actually result in employees who are better rested and feel more positively about their place of work. This can result in employees who want to climb the ladder, so to speak, and develop themselves further within their current company rather than moving on.

Social incentives

Creating an incredible company culture can be an incentive in and of itself. Getting to be part of a company that not only cares about employees when they are working but is aware of the importance of team bonding, is far more likely to encourage career development. Staff tend to remain in companies where they feel that they are highly valued as a whole person, so creating some social incentives is a fantastic way to push this.

Benefits as incentives

Providing great benefits to your employees is a wonderful way to encourage them to keep happy in their roles. Giving a range of benefits to suit different employees, as well as allowing them easy access to view their benefit options through an employee benefits portal keeps communication open. If you have benefits that take a variety of situations into account, employees will feel more secure about their position in case of illness or other events. This will help employees feel valued and able to see a long term future with your company.

With these tips, you can encourage the perfect career development paths for your employees and keep your staff happy for years to come.
