National Summit

On May 6 and 7, the IGD 2009 National Summit brought together a broad cross-section of business leaders in Washington, D.C. to advance a bold strategy to reduce global poverty.

Featured event

General Powell and General Jones photoSpeakers, including General Colin L. Powell and business leaders such as Neville Isdell formerly of Coca-Cola, Terry McGraw of McGraw-Hill and Jeff Immelt of GE, shared their expertise and exemplified the power of business leadership in promoting poverty reduction. U.S. National Security Advisor General James L. Jones invited IGD partners to share their expertise with the Obama administration, and IGD will follow up with the administration to advance recommendations that will improve U.S. foreign policy and increase global development.

Participants expressed strong support for IGD’s action agenda and a commitment to advocate for smarter foreign assistance, more open trade and the sharing of innovative business models for sustainable poverty reduction.

A new program launched during the Summit, Frontier 100, brings together CEOs from frontier markets with U.S. CEOs to reduce poverty through relationship building, knowledge sharing and targeted initiatives.

New leadership and staff

IGD is honored to welcome two new members to its Leadership Council: Neville Isdell, Former Chairman & CEO, The Coca-Cola Company and Farooq Kathwari, Chairman & CEO, Ethan Allen Interiors, Inc. The Leadership Council is a diverse group of leaders that advises IGD on strategic direction.

IGD is pleased to announce Katherine Switz has joined the staff as Vice President, Programs for Enterprise Growth. Katherine will lead IGD’s efforts to catalyze business participation in poverty reduction. She brings to IGD extensive experience in the commercial, nonprofit and public sectors engaging business to reduce poverty.
